Calling All Photographers!

Be a part of The Mechanicville Mile’s first photo contest! Win it, even!

Summer’s coming to end, and we want to see how you spent it. Send us your poolside shots, your silly kids, your goofy dogs, your cars, bikes, and kites. We want to see summer through your eyes. Get your shot in ASAP! Entry is free. Contest closes Sept. 22 at midnight. Winners will be announced Sept. 26.

Official Rules:

1. Photo must be the original work of the photographer.

2. Limit three photos per entrant.

3. Include name of photographer as it should appear in print. Caption should include time, place, and content of photo. Editors retain the right to edit caption for grammar and clarity.

4. Photo should be in JPEG format, as large as possible.

5. Photos should have been taken in the general Mechanicville area. This isn’t strictly defined, but use your discretion. We don’t want to see vacation photos from Myrtle Beach.

6. Photos will be judged on technical merit, adherence to theme, and artistic vision.

7. Digital editing should be limited to what could be achieved in a darkroom (ie, color correction, contrast/brightness, dodging and burning). Heavily manipulated photos will be rejected.

Copyright and Licenses*

1. By entering the contest, the entrant represents and warrants that (a) he/she is the sole owner of, or otherwise have the authority to grant all rights herein granted to The Mechanicville Mile; (b) photograph(s) submitted does not infringe upon any copyright, trademark, moral rights, rights of privacy, intellectual property rights or other proprietary right of any person or entity, nor does it contain libelous, scandalous or unlawful material.

2. Photographs that contain any material or elements that are not owned by the entrant and/or which are subject to the rights of third parties, including works of art, will be accepted as long as they do not constitute copyright infringement or fraud. It is the sole responsibility of the entrant to determine that photographs submitted to the contest do not constitute copyright violations or fraud, and the entrant is responsible for obtaining, prior to submission of the photograph, any and all releases and consents necessary to permit the exhibition and use of the photograph in the manner set forth in these Contest Rules without additional compensation. 3. If persons appear in the photograph, the entrant to the degree possible is responsible for obtaining, prior to submission of the photograph, any and all releases and consents necessary to permit the exhibition and use of the photograph in the manner set forth in these Contest Rules without additional compensation. If any person appearing in any photograph is under the age of majority in their state/province/country/territory of residence, the signature of a parent or legal guardian should be obtained, if possible. If any subject of a photo objects to its publication, The Mechanicville Mile reserves the absolute right to remove from any publications.

4. Entrants in the contest retain copyright to images they submit. By entering, entrants grant The Mechanicville Mile a nonexclusive worldwide, perpetual and irrevocable royalty free license to reproduce, distribute or publicly display the photographs submitted via the contest and the right to use the entrant’s name, city, state and country of residence in promotions and publications.

*What did that all mean? Basically, if there’s a person in the photo, make sure they know you’re entering the contest and they’re okay with it. If there’s copyrighted artwork, the artist needs to grant permission. Don’t submit anything illegal. When you enter, you’re giving us permission to use the photo once. After that usage, all copyrights return to you. That’s it!
