MHS Sectional Notes

The winter sports season at MHS is coming to a close. Here are some Sectional results from Mechanicville’s finest young athletes.

Indoor Track

The MHS Girls Indoor Track team narrowly missed 2nd place at the Section II Meet last Sunday. The Boys’ team placed 8th.

The scoring system is as follows: Top six score points, 10 for 1st, 8 for 2nd, 6 for 3rd, 4 for 4th, 2 for 5th and 1 for 6th.

Girls: missed 2nd by 3 points with a team score of 78.
Boys: placed 8th with a team score of 11.

Individually, Taylor Hines and Kylie Liberty advanced to State Qualifiers in the shot put. They join Erin Maloney, Schuyler McGuire, Mikayla Gowett, Angie Tylock, Yazmean Lee, and Arissa Spitalny are advancing to the State Qualifier meet for the girls’ side. Caleb Foard will advance for the boys’ side.

The State Qualifying Meet will be held this Sunday back at the SEFCU Arena.

Yazmean Lee (Lane 3) and Kali DeMarco (Lane 1) line up for a 55m heat.

Results from the Sectional Meet for the Boys:
4×200 – 4th
4×400 – 5th
600 – Foard – 3rd
1600 – Rapacciuolo – 6th

 

Wrestling

Red Raider Wrestling finished up two weeks ago in a crowded Queensbury High School Gym. Zach Perras finished 4th in the 220-lb. weight class, losing to the eventual champion, Joe Nellis of Johnstown.

Consolation Match:
220 — Procter (Schuy) pinned Perras (Mechanicville), 2:30.

 

Girls’ Bowling

The Mechanicville Girls retained their crown as champions of Class C/D. Mechanicville had a total of 5082 to defeat second-place Mayfield by 411 pins. Mechanicville had a lead of 256 pins going into the afternoon session. Mechanicville’s total of 5082 was the 7th highest total of the day out of the total of 25 schools from Section II classifications.
Individual awards went to Allison Carola high series 562 and Lindsey Rosen high single of 203.

Boys Bowling

The Mechanicville Boys finished 2nd in Class C/D Sectional Bowling at Boulevard Bowl in Schenectady. The Red Raiders led after the three-game morning session at 2,875 (192 pins/game average), followed by Hoosick Falls (2,867), Canajoharie (2,857), Fonda (2,792) and Duanesburg (2,765). However, Hoosick Falls rallied to take 1st in the afternoon.

Tanner Grozis totaled 1,263 pins for Mechanicville, finishing 5th in Class C/D.
