Red Raiders Look to Avenge Earlier Loss to Blackbirds

The #5 Class B boys basketball team, the Mechanicville Red Raiders, will take on Colonial Council rivals and the #1 seed Voorheesville Blackbirds tomorrow night in the Glens Falls Civic Center at 8pm. Voorheesville topped Mechanicville at home earlier this year 59-57, but this time it is on a neutral floor with a spot in the Section II Class B finals at stake.

Logan Polsinello’s career high 30 points helped the Red Raiders stave off the #4 Mekeel Christian Academy, 72-65, in Friday’s quarterfinals at Hudson Valley Community College. In their quarterfinal, Voorheesville handled #8 Catskill 64-53 behind five players (Hensel, Parry, Meaux, Crawford, and Hotaling) tallying between 11 and 13 points. Back in January, Mechanicville’s two-point loss was made all the more painful as the game ended on a controversial non-call, when a Mechanicville pass appeared to be kicked and a whistle was not blown. MHS Head Coach Rian Richardson thinks there are two keys on the defensive end which may yield a different result this time around.

“We have to keep Noah Crawford in front of us and defend the perimeter on Dylan Hensel,” Richardson said earlier today. Crawford had 21 points and 6 assists in the earlier meeting with MHS while Hensel connected on 7 three-pointers.

Voorheesville Head Coach David Burch has some personal history with Mechanicville at the Glens Falls Civic Center. Read more from the Spotlight News below:
