The city of Mechanicville is set to unveil its new hospitality building as part of the City Dock project on Terminal Street this spring. It was thought that decorative lighting for the new Terminal Street sidewalk would need to be added later.
Enter Stewart’s Shops and President Gary Dake. On Wednesday, Stewart’s Shops presented a $20,000 check to the city of Mechanicville to aid in completing the City Dock project with decorative lighting.
“Mechanicville has been very good to us,” Dake said. “So it is our honor to be able to give back and be part of this program for them.”
The hospitality building will house bathrooms, showers, and an observation deck to serve as an amenity for boaters on the Champlain Canal and eventually for users of the Champlain Canalway and Zim Smith Recreational Trails.
In addition to augmenting the aesthetic appeal of the City Dock, the decorative lighting will also provide the public safety benefit of increased visibility for pedestrians in the evening.
