The Arts are In Season at MHS

The MHS Band Holiday Concert will be held on Wednesday, December 18th at Paul Luther Auditorium.

The holidays are often the busiest time of year for many of us. We work longer hours to finish projects before year’s end and camp out in the library to finish the semester strong. We make an attack plan for getting our Christmas shopping done. However, while it is hard to find the time, some of the best opportunities to experience the arts locally occur during the holiday season.

At Mechanicville High School, the holiday arts season was kicked off earlier this month with the Drama Club’s Talent Show, a fundraiser for the club to enable activities throughout the year.

“Last weeks variety show went so well!” said MHS art teacher and Drama Club co-leader Katie Dollard. “We sold over 100 tickets and the auditorium was filled with laughter and song. Our students did such an amazing job performing and showing us how talented they truly are.”

The Drama Club will next be gearing up for their next theatrical performance, You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown, set for performances on March 21st, 22nd, and 23rd.

Last week, the MHS Chorus took to the stage and performed several holiday selections at its concert. Music instructor Sarah Bacon was pleased with their performance.

“The kids did a great job,” she said. “I was very proud of them.”

The MHS Orchestral Band will perform its Holiday Concert on Wednesday, December 18th, at 7pm in Paul Luther Auditorium. Music instructor Michael Jeffery will lead the band in performances of “Patapan”, “Carol of the Bells”, “In All Its Glory”, “Jingle Bells”, and “Liberty Bell March”.

The MHS Band will then invite alumni band members to the stage to perform “I’ll Be Home for Christmas”.
